In a 10-day course, the meditators undertake the delicate and demanding task of examining their own minds in a surrounding which intermingles long stretches of meditation with periods of instructions from Mr. Goenka. Students of this course are familiar with Goenkaji’s practice of chanting, both the Buddha’s words and his own inspiring compositions, rhymed Hindi couplets known as ‘dohas’ in the morning. This chanting provides a congenial, supportive atmosphere for meditation.
This book contains Dohas composed by Mr. S. N. Goenka. In addition to dohas played during a 10-day discourse, it also contains dohas published in Vipassana newsletters and collection from Mr. Goenka’s diaries. For the convenience of readers, these dohas are classified into different sections, such as ‘essence of Dhamma’, ‘kamma’, ‘the four noble truths’, ‘equanimity’ etc.
The book titled as ‘Dhamma-Vandana’ is an ideal companion volume with this book. It contains translation of pali suttas that Mr. Goenka chants during the course.
This book is ideal for Vipassana meditators as well as non-meditators.
