Metta Viharani Mataji
This book forms a part of the series published by VRI on the life of select senior Vipassana meditators. The primary purpose of this series is to motivate people by providing an ideal example of how a householder can live a happy and peaceful life by practicing Vipassana meditation.
Mrs. Elaichi Devi Goenka, Principal Vipassana Teacher and wife of Mr. S. N. Goenka, fondly and respectfully called as Mataji (mother), played multiple roles in her life. Hailing from a nuclear business family in Burma, she got married to Mr. S. N. Goenka and became part of his huge family. An understanding wife, dutiful daughter-in-law, loving mother and a gracious host- Mataji served every one with the same compassion and love.
An established Vipassana meditator and teacher, Mataji provided rock solid support to Mr. Goenka, in his noble cause of teaching and spreading vipassana worldwide, by assisting him in conducting courses. Many female students and teachers are grateful to Mataji for her compassionate guidance. This book narrates her life story, prominent incidents from her life reflecting her compassion and patience, and reminiscences from Vipassana students, teachers and her family members. Along with some old and rare pictures, this book also contains select letters between Mr. S. N. Goenka and Mataji.
This book is ideal for Vipassana meditators as well as non-meditators.
